What to Expect

8 Steps, One Clear Path

From your first phone call to the moment we hand over the keys, every project follows the same proven process — no guesswork, no surprises. We’ve refined these steps over 20+ years building across Texas, so you know what’s happening next and why. Here’s exactly what to expect.

Step 1 – Initial Consultation

We begin by learning about your goals, ideas, budget, and timeline. This conversation helps us understand what you want to accomplish and determine how we can best serve you.

Step 2 – Site Evaluation

Before moving forward, we evaluate the property and consider important factors such as site conditions, access, utilities, zoning requirements, and the overall feasibility of the project. A thorough site evaluation helps identify potential challenges early and allows us to plan responsibly.

Step 3 – Design & Building Plans

If you already have building plans, we can review them and help guide the project from there. If you do not have plans, our design services can help bring your ideas together and create a plan that fits your needs, property, lifestyle, and budget.

Step 4 – Financing Guidance

We understand that financing is an important part of any construction or renovation project. We can help you better understand the financing process and connect the project details to your overall budget. As VA-approved builders, we are also proud to serve veterans who are seeking to build a home using their VA benefits.

Step 5 – Selections & Interior Design

Once the plans and scope are established, our interior designer can help you make finish selections for your project. From flooring and cabinetry to countertops, fixtures, paint colors, and other details, we help create a cohesive look while keeping your priorities and budget in mind.

Step 6 – Project Planning & Preparation

Before construction begins, we finalize the scope of work, selections, schedule, and expectations. This preparation helps ensure that everyone understands the plan and that the project is ready to move forward with clarity.

Our team begins the work with careful attention to quality, communication, and craftsmanship. We keep you informed throughout the project and work to address questions or decisions as they arise.

Step 8 – Final Walkthrough

When the work is complete, we walk through the project with you to review the finished space, discuss any final details, and make sure everything has been completed according to the plan.

From new home construction to renovations and smaller improvements, our process is built around the same commitment: listening well, planning carefully, building responsibly, and treating every project with the care it deserves.

Already Own Land?

Building on Your Own Lot

If you already own a lot, Cornerstone can help you turn it into the home you have been envisioning. We work with you from the early planning stages through construction, helping coordinate the details required to build successfully on your property.

Our team can evaluate your lot, review site conditions, and help identify important considerations such as access, utilities, zoning, setbacks, and feasibility. We also work with homeowners associations to help ensure that plans and construction meet applicable community guidelines and compliance requirements.

You may bring your own building plans, or you can use our design services to develop a home that fits your property, lifestyle, needs, and budget. We can help guide the design process, coordinate selections, and bring the plans together before construction begins.

Cornerstone has also built spec homes on lots we own, giving us experience with the planning, design, and construction process from the ground up. Whether you are building on your own lot or considering one of our available homes, we bring the same care, communication, and commitment to quality to every project.

Our Warranty

Standing Behind Our Work

Every Cornerstone home is built with long-term performance and peace of mind in mind. Homes purchased with VA or FHA financing typically include a 2/10 home warranty, subject to the requirements of the applicable loan program and warranty provider. This coverage generally includes two years of limited coverage for workmanship and materials and ten years of coverage for qualifying structural defects.

The 2/10 warranty is designed to provide protection beyond the closing date. During the first two years, covered issues related to workmanship and materials may be addressed according to the warranty’s terms and conditions. Structural coverage generally applies during years three through ten to qualifying defects affecting designated load-bearing components of the home. Coverage, exclusions, deductibles, claim procedures, and other requirements are determined by the specific warranty program and provider.

As the builder, Cornerstone stands behind the quality of our work and remains committed to addressing covered construction concerns in a timely and professional manner. We will help explain the warranty process, provide guidance on submitting questions or claims, and work with the appropriate parties when an issue falls within the builder’s responsibilities or the warranty provider’s coverage.

Warranty coverage does not replace routine homeowner maintenance, and not every repair or concern is covered. Normal wear and tear, homeowner-installed improvements, damage caused by misuse or neglect, and certain cosmetic or maintenance-related items may be excluded. We encourage homeowners to review their warranty documents carefully and contact us with questions as they arise.

Our goal is to deliver a well-built home and provide clear support after closing. From the first planning conversation through the warranty period, Cornerstone is committed to building with care, communicating clearly, and treating every homeowner with respect.

Pricing

Honest, Upfront Pricing

Our barndominium projects can start around $150 per square foot with a practical floor plan and carefully chosen finishes. We have also built a site-built home for approximately $175 per square foot.

These figures are examples, not fixed quotes. Your price will depend on the floor plan, finishes, site conditions, utilities, and what is included in the build. We’ll help you understand those costs early and make choices that respect your budget.
